In order to better create software that is widely needed in the Joomla community, feel free to drop a suggestion here!

I think I have an idea for a CBplugin that would make you rich...

A plugin that allows you to limit the front end availability of CB plgin tabs by ACL (or more accurately ARO), while still allowing them to be viewed by the public.   

In other words on my site, I'd like to limit user access to the CB Profile Gallery tab so that only Authors or better can actually put pictures there, but still allow the public users to see the tabs so that guests can view the Author or better users' CB Profile Gallery.

Accomplish that, and I know DOZENS and DOZENS of CB users that will beat a path to your door!

Failing that, could you do this with your OWN CB plugins; for instance CB AJAX Sandbox.  Could you make it so the tab is ALWAYS visible to the public, but only a specific ARO or better can actually put new videos in?   And in either case - if there are no videos, the tab doesn't appear at all or appears with a configurable message.

This would allow users who buy your plugins to use as 'feature upgrades' to subscription or pay sites to limit their use to premium customers....

And I think your moving to Drupal (as well as others) is why the dev team is working so feverishly on Joomla 1.5  - the need for an improved ACL is one of the largest forces driving it.

BTW, in the interim someone has come up with exactly the add-in I have suggested, called "Advanced Profile Control".  So I guess it was a pretty good idea.

How about giving the parainvite functionality in more granular level, with functions like:

Most sites are recommend not because of the site itself but for an specific item.

The most practical option to get this done is by working together with other component developers and release this option as plugins until it evolves to an API.

A Point system for members.
Ways to gain points

• Each time they log in
• The amount of time
• Posts in a forum
• Articles
• Blogs
• Invite new members
• Option to Purchase points
• Admin can give them additional Points
• CP to change points for each thing they do. (I may want to award 1 point for forum posts and some else may want to give 100)
• Option to decide what actions to award points to

The list can go on forever. I know I would purchase this as well as many on Joomla board who have been asking for it and have offered to pay programmers to develop it.

+1 for Hazza suggestion, that would indeed be a great was to promote user activity all over website.

+ have all of their activity statistic&rank shown in CB tab and module to display the rank of caurse.

You can also add those features :
- complete virtual money component to buy/sell/trade/win/be rewarded with/ etc .. stuffs(infos, functionnality, subscription, virtual items, real items, etc..)
- set a real money value to the virtual money "points"

Such a feature is almost impossible to develop as an extension meant to serve the mass market. Consider this from the developer's point of view:
If i am to create such an extension, i have to support every single feature and every single extension that provides such a feature. Example: lets say giving users points when he submits a blog. Not only do I have to add blogging as a feature to support, I have to support every single blogging extension out there. And the list goes on to include forums, galleries, content posts, auctions etc etc etc. Without doing so, the extension will have no mass market appeal, which means the price will be sky high but with no real applicability.

The best way to implement such a feature is still to go the customized development way, ie to get a developer to create a customized extension just for your site.

Ok you're probably right but maybe a point system with limited extensions integration is possible :
-the number of logins, the time of login are core features.
-the para-invite integration should be ok (you've done it with FB karma..)
- the link between a CB_var and the point system should be easy too.

but the greatest feature I imagine with a point/money system is that admins and/or users could give point/money to others manually. Users could make transactions selling/buying/invite with that point/money system...

I dont mind if blog/invites/post/logins/etc are not rewarded at the beginning...


Maybe the joomla community could hire a developer with donations...to make this possible for everyone !

Userpointsystem  extensions

I do not regard this development as impossible, because it could by Pluginsystem like it the CB or JCE before-makes by Plugin by programs to be at any time extended, and in addition, one could make in such a way it as with Joomla, if I put on a new menu option, which heist program selects and then how many points he select then with the use for program points receive. It is only one inquiry of the data base. In addition it makes for Dupral forwards, because there is a point system here. I unfortunately use an on-line translator, therefore the bad translation.

I would also like to make a suggestion for a CB plugin, but not something as complex as the cool suggestions above.

My Suggestion is to take the Profile URL CB plugin, and turn it into a simple text field that can simply display a statement. If it still used AJAX, and could be positioned under the username, then it could perform the function of a status message.

This kind of functionality has been around forever in different forum packages and IM clients, but the most useful comparison for now is the status updates in Facebook.

It could be called:

CB AJAX Status Update Plugin

If this functionality was added to CB, WOW!

It seems like it would not take that much hacking for a CB expert, are there any plans for this kind of thing?

There are a few other CB plugins out that offer profile music players to which members can upload mp3s but either the interfaces are awful or the players dimensions are hard-coded so you can't make them fit your profile pages as well as yo might like. I'd like to see a cb mp3 player based on the one available on jeroenwijering.com (now part of Longtail, I think). It allows you to change the dimensions, colors, etc. There is one other based on it but the upload interface appears as part of the player when the member views his/her own page. It looks terrible. Could a release like this come from Mike.simbunch.com in the near future?
